I co-founded Ethereum because I believed the world needed a decentralized computer. I founded ConsenSys because that computer needed tools, wallets, and infrastructure before anyone could actually use it.
MetaMask started as an experiment inside ConsenSys. Now it has 30 million users and is basically the front door to Web3. The best products often start as side projects that nobody takes seriously.
We ran ConsenSys like a venture studio for years — dozens of projects, most of them experiments. A lot failed. The ones that survived — MetaMask, Infura — became essential infrastructure. That's how innovation works: you plant a hundred seeds and water the ones that sprout.
The SEC suing us over MetaMask is essentially suing the concept of a software wallet. If a wallet is a broker, then a web browser is a publisher. The legal theory doesn't hold up.
Ethereum isn't just a blockchain. It's a global settlement layer for value, identity, and trust. We're still in the dial-up era of this technology. Broadband is coming.
