INVESTING STYLE

Alex Hormozi

Hormozi puts money into established small businesses that are asset-light, throw off cash and live or die on sales. Think service companies and digital products.

Then he applies his offer, sales and operations playbooks to grow them. His edge is not financial engineering.

It is operational: making businesses better at selling and delivering. He looks for high gross margins, proven products, and founders who want help growing rather than just an exit check.

Scott Galloway

Galloway's personal investing style is relatively conservative given how loud he is. He keeps a heavy allocation in index funds and real estate.

He does make concentrated bets on individual stocks when he has conviction — he famously held Amazon for years. He angel invests occasionally but is not prolific.

His real wealth comes from business exits and media income, not portfolio management.

FINANCIAL PHILOSOPHY

Alex Hormozi

Make something people want so badly they feel stupid not buying it. His $100M Offers framework is built around the idea that most businesses fail at sales because they have commodity offers — things that are identical to competitors — rather than grand slam offers that make comparison shopping feel irrational.

His broader philosophy: give value so freely and publicly that people trust you before they ever speak to you. Then sell well.

Scott Galloway

Diversify, own assets, and do not confuse being smart with being lucky. Galloway preaches that the most reliable path to wealth is boring — buy index funds, own property in growing cities, and let time do the work.

He is deeply skeptical of anyone who claims they can consistently beat the market.

RISK TOLERANCE

Alex Hormozi

Hormozi's risk tolerance is high, but only where he can influence the outcome. His rule is to put money where he can personally change the result through operations, sales and offer design.

The risk he avoids is structural: broken businesses that no amount of hustle can fix, or deals heavy on debt with no margin for error. His own path proves the point.

He bootstrapped everything and never raised outside capital before the 2021 sale.

Scott Galloway

Moderate. Galloway has experienced the full spectrum — he had a company go public and then go bankrupt (Red Envelope), which taught him that financial ruin is always closer than you think.

Post-L2 sale, he became much more conservative. Heavy real estate holdings in New York and Florida.

He preaches diversification publicly and mostly follows his own advice, with occasional concentrated stock positions.

THE PLAYBOOK

Alex Hormozi

Works obsessively during defined sprint periods. Does not check social media for distraction — all his content is batched and scheduled.

Travels lightly. No obvious flashy lifestyle despite net worth — no yacht content, no Bugatti shots.

His flex is the work output and business results, not the toys. Trains consistently.

Has spoken about the importance of physical discipline feeding mental discipline.

Scott Galloway

Galloway owns significant real estate in New York and Florida. He talks openly about his wealth and spending — nice apartments, good restaurants, private school for his kids.

He is not frugal and does not pretend to be. But he is very intentional about where money goes.

He has said his biggest financial luxury is "buying back his time" — paying for convenience so he can focus on what matters.

BIGGEST WIN

Alex Hormozi

Gym Launch and the licensing model. He cracked a gym client acquisition system that worked reliably, then licensed it to thousands of gym owners instead of opening more gyms himself.

The leverage of a licensing model over a chain model is enormous — you scale revenue without scaling operational complexity at the same rate. That insight — find the thing that works, then license it — has informed everything he has built since.

Scott Galloway

Selling L2 to Gartner for an estimated $134 million in 2017. He built L2 into the go-to benchmarking firm for digital competence of luxury and consumer brands.

The exit, combined with his media career taking off simultaneously, catapulted him from "NYU professor" to "famous rich guy who yells about tech on the internet."

BIGGEST MISTAKE

Alex Hormozi

Blowing up his first gym. And the second.

He has been very public about losing everything multiple times early on. His first gym nearly bankrupted him.

He has spoken about sleeping on the gym floor to save money. The early failures are not a mistake he regrets — he credits them with teaching him everything — but they were genuinely costly in time and money.

Scott Galloway

Red Envelope. Full stop.

Galloway has been brutally honest about this — he took a gift e-commerce company public, it was valued at hundreds of millions, and then it went bankrupt. He has called it the most painful experience of his career and has said it took years to emotionally recover.

He lost a significant amount of personal wealth in the collapse.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Alex Hormozi

Alex Hormozi graduated from Vanderbilt magna cum laude in three years. He went into consulting, including Department of Defense work, then quit in 2013 at 23 to open his first gym in Huntington Beach, California.

Within three years he had six locations. The bigger idea was selling his system to other gym owners, which became Gym Launch.

He says it went on to work with more than 4,500 gyms. He then added Prestige Labs (supplements) and ALAN (lead follow-up software).

In 2021 he sold 66% of Gym Launch and Prestige Labs to American Pacific Group at a $46.2 million valuation, having never raised outside money. He and Leila now run Acquisition.com, which invests in asset-light, high cash flow service and digital businesses.

He published $100M Offers (2021) and $100M Leads (2023). $100M Money Models followed on 16 August 2025 and set a Guinness World Record as the fastest-selling non-fiction book.

In 2024 he also bought into Skool, the online community platform. He gives most of the content away free on YouTube and social media.

Scott Galloway

Scott Galloway is a serial entrepreneur and NYU Stern School of Business professor who became famous for his brutally honest takes on Big Tech. He founded nine companies over his career, including L2 (a business intelligence firm sold to Gartner in 2017), Red Envelope (an e-commerce company that went public then bankrupt), and Prophet (a brand strategy firm).

His 2017 book The Four, about Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, became a bestseller. His YouTube channel and Prof G podcast reach millions.

He called Amazon buying Whole Foods before it happened. He also co-hosts Pivot with Kara Swisher, one of the most popular tech podcasts in the world.

He teaches brand strategy at NYU and is known for his profanity-laced, data-heavy lectures that go viral every semester.
