Cresta was born in Stanford's AI lab and carries a famous last name. Co-founder Sebastian Thrun built Google's self-driving car and founded Udacity. The company coaches call center agents in real time, whispering the best thing to say while they talk. In March 2022 Tiger Global led an $80 million round that valued Cresta at $1.6 billion. That was four times its value a year earlier. The pedigree is real. Now it has to prove a whisper in an agent's ear is worth more than the AI everyone else is shipping.

cresta.comTHE ORIGIN STORY
Cresta came out of Stanford in 2017. Zayd Enam and Tim Shi were PhD students in the AI lab.
Their advisor was Sebastian Thrun, the man who led Google's self-driving car project and started the online school Udacity. Enam and Shi dropped out to build the company, with Thrun as co-founder.
The idea grew from a simple observation about expertise. In any call center, a few agents are great and most are average.
The great ones just know what to say. Cresta set out to capture that instinct in software and hand it to everyone else on the floor.
It launched from stealth in early 2020 with money from Greylock and Andreessen Horowitz.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Cresta sells software to companies that run large sales and support teams. It listens to live calls and chats.
As the agent talks, Cresta reads the conversation and suggests the next move. Say this.
Offer that. Do not forget this step.
It also automates the after-work, like call summaries and coaching notes. Customers pay a subscription based on how many agents use it.
The promise is money. A better answer at the right second means a saved customer or a closed sale.
Cresta pitches itself as the tool that makes an average agent perform like your best one.
THE PRODUCTS
Cresta's platform runs on live conversations. Cresta Agent Assist is the flagship.
It coaches agents in real time during calls and chats, suggesting responses and next steps. Cresta Director gives managers a live view of the floor and flags where coaching is needed.
Cresta Insights mines conversations for trends, like why deals stall or customers leave. More recently Cresta pushed into AI agents that handle conversations directly, part of the wider shift from helping humans to replacing the simplest calls entirely.
The through line is the same. Take what the best agents do and turn it into software.
HOW THEY GREW
Cresta's growth story is really a credibility story. Starting inside Stanford's AI lab with Sebastian Thrun's name attached opened every door in venture capital.
The funding came fast and from the best firms. Greylock and Andreessen Horowitz backed the Series A in 2020.
Sequoia led a $50 million Series B in 2021. Then Tiger Global led the $80 million Series C in March 2022.
That round quadrupled the valuation to $1.6 billion in twelve months. The company also pulled in strategic investors who happened to be its distribution partners.
Genesys, Five9, and Zoom all invested, and all sell contact center software Cresta can ride into.
THE HARD PART
Cresta raised at a $1.6 billion valuation in early 2022, right before the market turned and AI got commoditized. That is an awkward place to sit.
The real-time guidance idea was special when Cresta built it. Now large language models let any competitor generate live suggestions cheaply.
Observe.AI, Gong, and the phone system giants all offer versions of it. So Cresta has to grow into that $1.6 billion price tag while the thing it sells gets easier to copy every year.
High valuations set in the 2021 boom are a burden until the revenue catches up.

WHO BACKED THEM
Cresta's backer list reads like a greatest hits of Silicon Valley. Greylock Partners and Andreessen Horowitz got in first at the 2020 launch.
Sequoia Capital led the $50 million Series B in 2021. Tiger Global led the $80 million Series C in March 2022 at a $1.6 billion valuation.
The most telling names are the strategic ones. Genesys, Five9, Zoom, JPMorgan, CarMax, and Porsche all invested.
The contact center vendors among them are the exact channels Cresta needs to reach customers. All told, Cresta has raised more than $150 million.
