DEEL

Netfigo Verdict
on Deel

The startup that made hiring someone in Jakarta as easy as hiring someone in San Jose. Deel cracked the code on global employment compliance — the most boring, most regulated, and most valuable problem in the remote work era. $500M+ in annual revenue by age 4 is absurd growth. The risk is that the remote work boom slows and companies pull people back to offices. The bet is that the globalization of talent is permanent.

THE ORIGIN STORY

Alex Bouaziz (French-Israeli) and Shuo Wang (Chinese-Canadian) met at MIT. They saw that remote work was going global but hiring someone in another country was a bureaucratic nightmare — different tax laws, employment regulations, benefits requirements, and payment systems in every country.

Deel handles all of it. You want to hire an engineer in Brazil?

Deel is the legal employer, handles payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance. You just manage the work.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

SaaS subscription with per-employee pricing. Companies pay $49-99/month per contractor and $500+/month per full-time employee managed through Deel.

Revenue also comes from payroll processing fees, currency exchange margins, and Deel Card transactions. They hit $500M+ ARR in 2023.

THE PRODUCTS

Deel EOR (Employer of Record in 150+ countries), Deel Contractor (pay and manage freelancers), Deel Payroll (global payroll processing), Deel HR (people management platform), Deel Immigration, Deel Engage (performance management), Deel Card.

HOW THEY GREW

Becoming the operating system for global employment. Beyond payroll and compliance, Deel is expanding into HR management, equity administration, immigration support, and workforce analytics.

They want every company that hires internationally to run their entire people operation through Deel. Also aggressively acquiring competitors — bought PayGroup, Assemble, and others.

THE HARD PART

Regulatory complexity at scale. Employment law is different in every single country, and it changes constantly.

Deel has to maintain legal entities and compliance infrastructure in 150+ countries simultaneously. One regulatory mistake in one country can mean massive fines or criminal liability.

WHO BACKED THEM

Andreessen Horowitz, Coatue Management, Spark Capital, Y Combinator, Altimeter Capital
