EASYPOST

Netfigo Verdict
on EasyPost

EasyPost is the Stripe of shipping — a single API that lets businesses access USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and dozens of other carriers without building individual integrations. The company processes over 1 billion shipping labels per year. While Stripe made payments easy, EasyPost makes shipping easy. And just like Stripe, most consumers have never heard of it even though it powers shipping for thousands of businesses they buy from.

THE ORIGIN STORY

Jarrett Streebin was a developer who needed to integrate shipping into an e-commerce application and discovered that every carrier had a different API, different documentation, different error codes, and different pricing structures. He built EasyPost in 2012 as a unified shipping API — one integration that gives developers access to all major carriers.

The company grew by being the simplest way for developers to add multi-carrier shipping to any application.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

Usage-based API pricing. EasyPost charges per shipping label generated and per API call.

Free tier for low volume. Paid plans scale with usage.

Revenue grows directly with e-commerce volume — as businesses ship more, EasyPost earns more. The pricing is transparent and developer-friendly.

THE PRODUCTS

Shipping API (multi-carrier label generation). Rate Shopping (compare prices across carriers).

Tracking API (unified tracking across all carriers). Address Verification.

Shipping Insurance. Returns Management.

Customs documentation for international shipments.

HOW THEY GREW

Developer-first, bottom-up adoption. EasyPost grew the same way Stripe and Twilio grew — developers found it, loved the API, and integrated it into their applications.

The company invested in excellent documentation, SDKs in every major programming language, and responsive developer support. As developer-built applications scaled, so did EasyPost's revenue.

THE HARD PART

Competition from ShipStation, Shippo, and the carriers themselves (UPS, FedEx) building better APIs. E-commerce shipping is a commodity business with thin margins.

EasyPost needs to add value beyond basic label generation — through rate shopping, tracking, insurance, and analytics.
