The email API for developers who hate email APIs. Resend makes sending transactional emails dead simple — no more fighting with SendGrid's confusing dashboard or Mailgun's ancient docs. Built by Zeno Rocha, a developer who's famous in the React community. Resend is opinionated, beautifully designed, and developer-first. It also built React Email — an open-source library for creating email templates with React components. In a market dominated by Twilio SendGrid and Mailgun, Resend bet that developer experience is the moat. 30,000+ developers signed up in the first year.

resend.comTHE ORIGIN STORY
Zeno Rocha is a Brazilian developer who was well-known in the open-source community (he created Clipboard.js, Dracula Theme, and contributed to many projects). In 2022, he looked at the email API market and saw that developers hated all the existing options.
SendGrid was powerful but complicated. Mailgun was reliable but old.
Postmark was good but limited. Rocha built Resend to be the Stripe of email — simple APIs, beautiful docs, great developer experience.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Usage-based pricing. Developers pay based on the number of emails sent.
Free tier (100 emails/day) for small projects. Paid plans start at $20/month.
Enterprise plans for high-volume senders. Revenue grows as customers' email volume grows.
The open-source React Email library drives awareness and adoption.
THE PRODUCTS
Resend Email API — simple API for sending transactional and marketing emails. React Email — open-source library for building email templates with React components.
Email Analytics — delivery tracking, open rates, click rates. Webhooks — real-time event notifications for email delivery.
HOW THEY GREW
Developer community and open source. Zeno Rocha's existing reputation in the developer community gave Resend instant credibility.
React Email (the open-source email template library) drove thousands of developers to discover Resend. Beautiful documentation and a polished product created word-of-mouth.
THE HARD PART
Competing with entrenched players (SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES, Postmark) who already have thousands of enterprise customers. Email infrastructure is sticky — switching costs are real.
Resend needs to win new projects and new companies rather than migrating existing ones.
