SENTINELONE

Netfigo Verdict
on SentinelOne

CrowdStrike's number-two rival that has been trying to prove autonomous AI security is better than having humans in the loop. SentinelOne's Singularity platform claims to detect, respond, and remediate threats without waiting for an analyst — which is either the future of cybersecurity or a really confident marketing claim. Then CrowdStrike crashed 8.5 million computers in July 2024, and SentinelOne got handed the biggest customer acquisition opportunity of its life.

THE ORIGIN STORY

Tomer Weingarten, an Israeli cybersecurity veteran, founded SentinelOne in 2013 after seeing that endpoint security was shifting from signature-based detection to behavioral AI. His thesis was that the next generation of endpoint security would not just detect threats but autonomously respond to them — rolling back malicious changes, quarantining files, and killing processes without waiting for a human analyst.

The company was built in Tel Aviv (R&D) and Mountain View (HQ), following the classic Israeli cybersecurity playbook.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

SentinelOne sells AI-powered endpoint security — the same market as CrowdStrike, but with a twist. Their Singularity platform can autonomously detect, respond to, and remediate threats without human intervention.

While CrowdStrike's Falcon needs human analysts for complex responses, SentinelOne claims its AI can handle the entire incident response cycle automatically. Subscription-based, priced per endpoint per year.

They also built a data lake (Singularity Data Lake) that ingests security telemetry and competes with traditional SIEM tools.

THE PRODUCTS

Singularity Platform (endpoint security), Singularity Data Lake (security analytics), Singularity Ranger (network discovery), Purple AI (AI security analyst)

HOW THEY GREW

Position as the CrowdStrike alternative. Every time CrowdStrike has a problem — the 2024 outage being the biggest — SentinelOne is there.

They also lean heavily into the autonomous response angle, arguing that human-dependent security cannot scale. The data lake play is a bet that security analytics will consolidate into the endpoint platform.

International expansion, particularly in Europe and Asia, is a priority.

THE HARD PART

Living in CrowdStrike's shadow. SentinelOne is widely considered the number-two cloud endpoint security vendor, but CrowdStrike has 3-4x their revenue and dominates enterprise mindshare.

Every enterprise deal is a fight against CrowdStrike, and SentinelOne often wins on price but loses on brand. The July 2024 CrowdStrike outage was actually a gift — it gave SentinelOne a once-in-a-decade opening to poach customers.

Whether they capitalize remains to be seen.
