Two Polish developers built a live chat widget in Szczecin in 2013 and quietly turned it into customer service software for more than 300,000 small businesses. The whole pitch is simple. Give a tiny online store the same chatbot power the giants have. In 2022 Tidio raised $25 million from PeakSpan Capital. Not flashy, not a unicorn, just a tool that does one thing well for people the big players ignore.

Tidio started in 2013 in Szczecin, Poland. Marcin Wiktor and Tytus Gołas wanted a live chat tool that a non-technical shop owner could actually install.
Most chat software back then was built for big companies with IT teams. Tidio went the other way.
Drop in a widget. Answer customers.
Done. The bet was that millions of small merchants wanted the tech but could not afford the enterprise version.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Tidio is a subscription tool. Small businesses pay a monthly fee to add live chat and chatbots to their website.
A free tier gets people in the door. They upgrade as they grow.
The core product bundles live chat, email, and automated bots into one inbox. A shop owner can answer a customer, hand off to a bot, and track it all in one place.
Most customers are e-commerce stores on Shopify, WooCommerce, and similar platforms.
THE PRODUCTS
The main product is the Tidio live chat and chatbot platform. It lets a business talk to customers in real time and automate replies.
Lyro is its AI chatbot, built to resolve common questions without a human. There is also a shared inbox that pulls chat, email, and messenger conversations into one screen.
Everything is aimed at a small team, or a solo shop owner, running support alone.
HOW THEY GREW
Tidio grew by going after the customers everyone else ignored. Small online stores.
The free plan did the marketing. A merchant installs it for nothing, likes it, then pays when the store grows.
By the time of the 2022 raise, Tidio said more than 300,000 businesses used it. It also leaned into AI early with a bot called Lyro, built to answer common customer questions on its own.
THE HARD PART
Tidio plays in a brutal market. Intercom, Zendesk, and Drift all want the same customers.
The big players have more money and more features. Tidio's edge is price and simplicity.
That edge is thin. If a rival makes its cheap tier good enough, Tidio's whole pitch weakens.
AI raised the stakes too. Every customer service company now claims to have a smart bot.

WHO BACKED THEM
The $25 million Series B in 2022 was led by PeakSpan Capital, a US growth fund focused on software. Early Polish backer Inovo Venture Partners stayed in.
Rafał Brzoska, the founder and CEO of parcel-locker giant InPost, joined as an angel. That mix says a lot.
US growth money, local Polish belief, and a homegrown startup hero betting on the next one.
