Jupiter is India's most design-forward neobank — a digital banking app that makes managing money feel less like filing taxes and more like using Instagram. Founded by a serial fintech entrepreneur who previously sold Citrus Pay for $130 million, Jupiter targets young Indians who want a banking experience that does not feel like it was designed in 1998. With over 2 million users, the company is proving that Indian consumers will switch banks for better UX.

Jitendra Gupta sold his previous fintech company, Citrus Pay, to PayU for $130 million in 2016. After the exit, he identified a gap: Indian banks had apps, but they were universally terrible — slow, confusing, and designed for compliance officers rather than customers.
In 2019, he founded Jupiter to build a neobanking experience that young Indians would actually enjoy. The app offers a savings account (in partnership with Federal Bank), smart spending insights, UPI payments, mutual fund investments, and a debit card with 1% cashback.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Partnership-based neobank. Jupiter partners with Federal Bank (RBI-licensed bank) for deposits and lending.
Revenue from interchange fees on debit card transactions, lending products, mutual fund distribution commissions, and float income on deposits. The company does not have its own banking license.
THE PRODUCTS
Jupiter Savings Account (with Federal Bank). Jupiter Edge (premium metal debit card).
Smart Spending Insights (automatic categorization and budgeting). UPI Payments.
Mutual Fund Investments. Pots (goal-based savings).
Rewards and cashback.
HOW THEY GREW
Design-led differentiation in a crowded neobank market. Jupiter grew by being the most beautifully designed banking app in India.
The app's spending insights, smart statements, and savings features attracted young professionals who were frustrated with clunky incumbent bank apps. Social media marketing on Instagram and Twitter drove awareness among the target demographic.
THE HARD PART
Regulatory constraints. Jupiter does not have its own banking license and depends on Federal Bank for core banking.
This limits product flexibility. Competition from Niyo, Fi, and traditional banks like Kotak and ICICI that are improving their digital experiences.
