They set out to build the Plaid of trucking and somehow convinced 150,000 fleet operators to share their telematics data before writing a single enterprise contract. Founded by fintech and logistics veterans, Terminal treats fragmented truck data like a plumbing problem. They fix the pipes so insurance and software companies can finally get paid. If they actually pull off the integration, they own the nervous system of American logistics.

The idea started in the backrooms of Silicon Valley banking apps and grew up on long haul truck routes. Raghav Midha and Connor Giles spent their early careers building payment infrastructure and watching how messy old school data integrations really were.
Giles came from a family that knew the trucking world firsthand. Midha was deep in the fintech trenches.
They realized trucking still ran on fragmented APIs and broken spreadsheets. So they went to work building a middleware layer that would actually work for drivers and carriers.
They launched quietly in the summer of 2021. The market was starving for a single plug and play data pipe.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Terminal sells digital plumbing. Trucking companies run dozens of different telematics boxes that spit out incompatible data.
Insurance carriers, fleet management software, and lenders all need that data to price risk and track shipments. Right now, connecting to each trucking software provider is a nightmare.
Terminal builds one clean API that aggregates it all.
Companies pay for access to that unified feed. Instead of negotiating with fifty separate hardware vendors, buyers just sign one contract and get normalized data instantly.
It is a classic B2B infrastructure play.
THE PRODUCTS
The core product is their Unified Truck API. It acts as a single translator that pulls vehicle diagnostics, GPS location, and driver behavior data from dozens of incompatible telematics systems.
Buyers plug in once and get standardized fields back.
The platform handles authentication, rate limits, and error routing without the client ever touching the trucking hardware. They also offer specialized endpoints for insurance underwriting and fleet routing analytics.
It strips away the manual CSV exports and proprietary logins.
HOW THEY GREW
They skipped the usual heavy sales grind and focused entirely on supply side commitments. Before scaling their sales team, they secured promises for data access from over 150,000 trucks.
That gave them massive leverage when talking to insurance and software buyers.
Half of their early customers were insurance companies. The other half sold directly to carriers.
They used those commitments to prove network effects before burning cash on customer acquisition. They kept their head down to hire engineers and lock in partner relationships.
THE HARD PART
Fragmented data standards in legacy trucking are a nightmare. Every fleet runs different telematics hardware running different software versions.
Building a seamless API requires constant maintenance and manual patching when those systems update. The threat is not competition from other startups.
It is the sheer inertia of the industry itself.
Drivers and dispatchers will not change their routines for a better API. Terminal has to make integration so invisible that adoption happens automatically.
They also need to prove data accuracy to insurers who hold deep skepticism. Execution risks are high when the underlying industry runs on paper and phone calls.

WHO BACKED THEM
Golden Ventures and Y Combinator led their seed round. That is a serious endorsement for an infrastructure play this early.
Golden Ventures brings deep fintech and API platform experience to the table. Y Combinator guarantees the startup gets plugged into a massive network of potential B2B buyers.
The backing tells enterprise software companies that Terminal is not a one off consulting side project. It signals scale readiness.
The capital went straight into hiring senior engineers and hardening the platform for enterprise buyers.
