WORLDCOIN

Netfigo Verdict
on Worldcoin

The most ambitious and creepy startup idea of the AI era. Sam Altman — the man building the AI that might replace human workers — is also building the system to verify you're human. The irony writes itself. Worldcoin has scanned 10 million eyeballs across 50 countries. The technology works. The question is whether scanning everyone's iris is a brilliant solution to AI fraud or the origin story of a dystopian surveillance network. There is no middle ground on this one.

THE ORIGIN STORY

Sam Altman (yes, the OpenAI CEO) and Alex Blania founded Worldcoin on a simple premise: as AI gets better, we need a way to prove you're a real human, not a bot. Their solution: scan everyone's iris with a chrome sphere called "the Orb," give them a cryptographic World ID, and distribute free cryptocurrency to every verified human on Earth.

It sounds like science fiction because it basically is.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

Token-based economy. Worldcoin distributes WLD tokens to users who verify their identity by scanning their irises with the Orb device.

Revenue model is still emerging — eventually, the World ID (proof of personhood) could be licensed to apps and platforms that need to verify users are human. The WLD token creates speculative value.

THE PRODUCTS

World ID (proof-of-personhood credential), Orb (iris scanning device), World App (crypto wallet), WLD Token, World Chain (dedicated blockchain).

HOW THEY GREW

Global Orb deployment and World ID adoption. Worldcoin has deployed Orbs in 50+ countries and verified over 10 million World IDs.

The growth strategy is to make World ID the universal proof-of-personhood — integrated into apps, financial services, and government systems. If AI makes bot detection impossible, World ID becomes essential infrastructure.

THE HARD PART

Privacy concerns and regulatory backlash. Collecting biometric data (iris scans) from millions of people raises massive privacy issues.

Kenya banned Worldcoin's operations. Spain, France, and Germany launched investigations.

Critics call it "surveillance capitalism with crypto characteristics." Convincing billions of people to scan their eyeballs requires extraordinary trust.
