JELLYSMACK

Netfigo Verdict
on Jellysmack

Jellysmack bet early that the biggest creators on YouTube were leaving serious money on the table by ignoring Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok. It built technology to repackage and distribute creator content across every major platform — handling the editing, captioning, optimization, and revenue splits. PewDiePie, Bailey Sarian, and Brad Mondo all partnered with them. In 2021, a $232M Series C round from Elysian Park Ventures valued the company at around $1.5 billion. The model is clever but depends entirely on platform ad revenue holding up.

THE ORIGIN STORY

Three French entrepreneurs — Michael Philippe, Robin Sabban, and Swann Maizil — noticed that major YouTube creators were uploading to YouTube and essentially ignoring every other platform. They built Jellysmack in Paris in 2016 to fix that.

The original product was a technology stack that could automatically adapt and reformat YouTube video content for Facebook and other platforms. They proved the model worked, moved headquarters to New York, and scaled into a full creator partnership platform.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

Jellysmack partners with established creators, handles the distribution and optimization of their content across Facebook, YouTube, Snap, TikTok, and other platforms, and shares the resulting ad revenue with the creator. The company keeps the difference between what it earns in platform revenue and what it pays back to the creator.

It also offers Creator Partner Program advances — giving creators upfront money in exchange for a share of future platform revenue.

THE PRODUCTS

Creator Partner Program — multi-platform distribution and revenue sharing for established creators. Jellysmack Originals — in-house content production.

Creator data and analytics platform for performance benchmarking.

HOW THEY GREW

Sign top-tier creators with proven audiences on YouTube and help them cross-platform their content for incremental revenue. Use proprietary data and algorithms to predict which content performs best on each platform.

Expand from distribution into production, creator tools, and IP licensing.

THE HARD PART

Platform algorithms change fast. Facebook, which was Jellysmack's core early revenue source, dramatically cut video ad rates multiple times between 2018 and 2022.

The business is exposed to the decisions of platforms it does not control. Creator deals are also complex to enforce if platform economics shift mid-contract.
