The threat intelligence company that reads the entire internet — including the dark web — to tell you who's about to attack you. Recorded Future collects and analyzes data from over 1 million sources in real time to predict cyber threats before they happen. Mastercard bought them for $2.65 billion in 2024 — Mastercard's largest acquisition ever. Founded by a Swedish-American entrepreneur who realized that the best defense against hackers is knowing what they're planning before they do it.

Christopher Ahlberg, a Swedish-born AI researcher and serial entrepreneur, founded Recorded Future in 2009 in Boston. His insight was that cyber threats don't appear out of nowhere — they leave signals across the internet.
Hackers discuss targets on dark web forums. Malware samples appear on paste sites.
Vulnerability exploits get advertised. If you could collect and analyze all this data in real time, you could predict attacks before they happen.
Recorded Future built a platform that scans over 1 million sources continuously — open web, dark web, technical feeds, social media — and uses NLP and machine learning to extract threat intelligence.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
SaaS subscriptions to enterprises and government agencies. Customers pay annual subscriptions for access to Recorded Future's threat intelligence platform.
Pricing scales based on the modules used and the size of the organization. The platform integrates with existing security tools (SIEMs, SOARs, firewalls) to automatically enrich security alerts with contextual intelligence.
THE PRODUCTS
Recorded Future Intelligence Platform — real-time threat intelligence from 1M+ sources. Intelligence Cards — contextual information on any threat indicator (IP, domain, malware, vulnerability).
Brand Intelligence — monitoring for brand impersonation and fraud. Third-Party Risk — evaluating cybersecurity risk in supply chain partners.
HOW THEY GREW
Integrating with everything. Recorded Future built integrations with every major security platform — Splunk, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, ServiceNow.
This made their intelligence actionable rather than just informational. Government contracts (including intelligence agencies) provided early revenue and credibility.
THE HARD PART
Threat intelligence is only valuable if security teams actually use it. Many organizations buy threat intel feeds and never look at them.
Recorded Future had to build a product intuitive enough that overworked security analysts would actually integrate it into their workflow. Competition from CrowdStrike (which added threat intel to its platform) and open-source alternatives also increased.
