Togal.AI is what happens when a former congressman gets tired of construction math. Patrick Murphy, who represented Florida in the US House and is an executive at one of the state's biggest builders, co-founded it in 2019 to kill the most tedious job in construction. Estimating. The software reads a blueprint and measures every room and space in seconds, with claimed 97 percent accuracy, instead of a person spending days with a mouse. It raised a $5 million round capped at a $50 million valuation, backed by Florida Funders and executives from Meta and Goldman Sachs. Boring problem, real money, surprisingly good pitch.

www.togal.aiTHE ORIGIN STORY
Togal.AI was founded in 2019 by Patrick Murphy and Patrick Hughes in Miami. Murphy is an unusual startup founder.
He represented Florida's 18th district in Congress from 2013 to 2017, then went into the family construction business as an executive at Coastal Construction, one of the largest builders in the Southeast. There he watched estimators do the same soul-crushing task over and over.
To bid on a job, someone has to measure every room, wall, and space on a set of blueprints by hand. It takes days.
Murphy figured a computer could do it in seconds. So they built one.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO
Togal.AI sells software to construction companies that need to bid on projects. Before you can price a job, you have to do a takeoff.
That means measuring every space and surface on the building plans. Estimators normally do this by hand, clicking through drawings for days.
Togal automates it. Contractors pay a subscription to use the software.
The value is simple. Faster, more accurate estimates mean a contractor can bid on more jobs and win more of them.
Time saved is money made.
THE PRODUCTS
The core product is Togal's AI takeoff and estimating engine. Point it at a set of blueprints and it detects, labels, and measures every space automatically, claiming around 97 percent accuracy and turning days of work into seconds.
On top of that sits analytics that help estimators compare and price jobs. Togal has also pushed into AI assistants for construction, building chatbot-style tools that let teams ask questions about their project documents in plain English.
HOW THEY GREW
Togal had a built-in advantage. Its co-founder runs estimating at a major general contractor, so the software was tested and refined on real, large-scale construction bids from day one.
That is rare for a startup. Most build in a vacuum.
Togal built inside a working construction business. It leaned on Murphy's profile and network to get attention in the industry and the press.
It also raised money from recognizable names, including executives at Meta and Goldman Sachs, which added credibility. The pitch was always the same.
Estimating is slow and everyone hates it. We fixed it.
THE HARD PART
Construction is famously slow to adopt new technology. The industry runs on relationships, spreadsheets, and decades-old habits.
Convincing veteran estimators to trust an algorithm with their bids is hard. Togal also has to deliver on its accuracy claims.
If the software measures a job wrong, a contractor could underbid and lose real money, so trust is everything. And it is not alone.
Construction-tech is crowded with takeoff and estimating tools, so Togal has to keep proving it is faster and smarter than the rest. Selling software into a cautious, old-school industry is the whole battle.

WHO BACKED THEM
Togal.AI's standout round was a $5 million pre-Series A raised on a SAFE with a $50 million valuation cap. It was led by Tampa-based venture firm Florida Funders.
What made the round notable was the roster behind it. Executives from Meta, Facebook's parent company, and from Goldman Sachs put money in alongside the lead.
For a Miami construction-tech startup, having Big Tech and Wall Street names on the cap table was a real signal. The company has reported raising more than $17 million in total across its rounds.
