HUDA KATTAN
Built Huda Beauty from false lashes and a blog into a $1.2B beauty empire. One of the most-followed beauty influencers on earth. Proved that audience trust converts to revenue at a scale no advertising budget can buy.
Huda Kattan started with a $6,000 lash line and 50 million Instagram followers worth more than most media budgets. TSG Consumer Partners valued Huda Beauty at $1.2 billion in 2017 — before most brands figured out that influencers were the distribution channel. She then launched Kayali fragrances with her sister in 2018, proving the brand extended beyond beauty. The empire she built is about trust, and trust does not depreciate.

CAREER & BACKGROUND
Huda Kattan was born in Oklahoma and raised partly in Dubai. She trained as a makeup artist in Los Angeles and Dubai, studying at the Joe Blasco School of Makeup.
She launched her beauty blog Huda Beauty in 2010, sharing makeup tutorials and product reviews. By 2013 she had 1 million Instagram followers and launched her first product: false eyelashes sold through Sephora Dubai.
The lashes sold out in minutes. The business scaled rapidly from there.
By 2017 Huda Beauty had become a full cosmetics brand with over $200M in annual sales. That same year, TSG Consumer Partners acquired a minority stake valuing the company at approximately $1.2 billion — making Huda Kattan one of the rare self-made female billionaires in the beauty industry.
In 2018 she co-founded Kayali, a fragrance brand with her sister Mona Kattan. By 2023 Huda Kattan had over 54 million Instagram followers and remained one of the most influential voices in global beauty.

INVESTING STYLE & PHILOSOPHY
Audience-led consumer brand investing. Backs beauty and lifestyle founders who have authentic community trust.
Favors high-repeat-purchase DTC products with loyal followings over tech-heavy plays.
THE PLAYBOOK
Risk Approach
Moderate. She took on a minority investor in 2017 rather than raising VC early — preserving control while validating the valuation.
Prefers to prove the product before scaling.
Money Habits
Started with a $6,000 product investment and no outside capital. Scaled by reinvesting revenue.
Took on outside capital only after proving $200M+ in annual sales. Deliberate about keeping family control.
BIGGEST WIN
Turning her first false lash product — launched at Sephora Dubai with $6,000 — into a $1.2B valued company by 2017. No VC funding, no co-founder playbook.
Just audience trust and product quality.
BIGGEST MISTAKE
FINANCIAL PHILOSOPHY
Social proof is the best marketing spend. Believes that authentic influence creates compounding brand equity that traditional advertising cannot replicate.
Reinvests heavily in product quality and community.
FAMILY & PERSONAL LIFE
Married to Christopher Goncalo (married 2013). Has one daughter, Nour Goncalo.
Her sisters Mona and Alya Kattan are both business partners — Mona co-founded Kayali and Alya manages Huda Beauty content.

QUOTES (5)
I did not know I was building a brand. I was just sharing what I loved.
Your audience is your most valuable asset. Protect that trust with everything you have.
People said the beauty market was crowded. It was not crowded for someone who already had 10 million followers.
I started with false lashes because I genuinely could not find good ones. The best businesses start with a problem you personally cannot solve.

Gary Vaynerchuk
Both understood social media as infrastructure before most companies had a social strategy. GaryVee built businesses on YouTube and Twitter; Kattan built Huda Beauty on Instagram. Both ran before the industry walked.
Sophia Amoruso
Two influencer-turned-founder stories in beauty and fashion. Amoruso built Nasty Gal on eBay; Kattan built Huda Beauty on Instagram. Both proved audience trust is a real business asset. The key difference: Kattan retained more control and scaled more sustainably.
